Pre-Licensed Supervision in Vermont

How I Do Pre-Licensed Supervision

I help pre-licensed clinicians in Vermont learn how to run the business side of their practice while growing their clinical skills into a confident and savvy clinician.

I've been a therapist for a long time and I've supervised dozens of new clinicians. I've also been in your shoes. You're looking for a trusted supervisor that you can bring the struggles to. But you also need someone who sees your skills and strengths. You're juggling two important tasks - developing as a therapist and managing a business.

I supervise pre-licensed clinicians to tackle all the tasks of developing into a seasoned clinician and an astute business owner.

By the time we're done working together you will have:

  • heard critical feedback that will help guide your ongoing training and development
  • developed your own personal style of therapy
  • deepened and expanded your clinical skills to work with the clients that are a good match for your style and experience
  • clarified where you want to go as a clinician
  • increased your awareness, knowledge, and skills around working with clients with different privileged and marginalized identities
  • explored the real-life ethics of being a licensed mental health clinician
  • implemented a solid documentation strategy that will help you pass insurance audits and keep sufficient client records
  • learned how to run your business including billing and budgeting
  • nurtured a solid funnel to get clients when you have openings so you can be as full as you want to be

Am I a Good Fit for You?

Supervisees that tend to be a good fit for me are:

  • Highly organized
  • Timely with documentation
  • Open to direct feedback and invitations to explore their inner-world related to clients
  • Open to the principles of IFS
  • Interested in developing self-awareness about their reactions to clients
  • Committed to considering their own and their clients' privileged and marginalized identities
  • Confident enough in themselves to share their successes and their struggles
  • Comfortable asking questions and reaching out, even if they think they've messed up
  • Working predominately with adults
  • Comfortable with the stage their at in the journey and open to guidance from an experienced supervisor

Folks who I am not a good fit for:

  • Individuals who aren't interested in anti-racism and anti-oppressive counseling practices
  • Those who've struggled to implement feedback they've received repeatedly
  • Those who feel guarded about receiving feedback or disclosing mistakes or challenges
  • Folks who aren't at least somewhat open to IFS concepts
  • Those who struggle to stay on top of administrative tasks like billing, documentation, and responding to emails (and don't have systems in place to support them).
  • Those working mostly with children, families, or couples
  • Resentful of having to do supervision and resistant to the oversight necessary at this point in their career

How Pre-Licensed Supervision Works

Reach out to me and we can set up a time for an initial 30 minute phone consultation. We'll talk more in-depth about your experience, my approach, and your needs.

Folks who are interested in working with me will provide 2 references.

After I speak with your references if we are both excited to move forward we will develop a plan to move forward with a formalized supervision agreement.

While there are more details in this agreement the basics are:

  • You'll pay me a flat monthly rate
  • I'll provide 4-5 hours of supervision each month (including 1-2 hours of group supervision)
  • I also provide administrative support in the form of  getting your practice going (if needed), reviewing documentation, and assisting with billing
  • I'll be available for urgent consultations
  • You'll receive payment from me bi-monthly for the sessions you provide

How I do Consultation

I offer consultation to therapists and coaches in the following areas:

  • Internal Family Systems Therapy
  • General Clinical work
  • Business Practices of Private Practice
  • Starting a Private Practice
  • Group Leadership Skills

In a consultation relationship I hold no responsibility for the therapists clinical practice which is much different than a supervisory relationship. I offer consultation for an hourly fee and I'm available for ongoing or one time consultation.
