I am a licensed clinical mental health counselor with over ten years of experience working with clients and training other therapists. I've worked at various places throughout my career as a mental health counselor and supervisor. I started in community mental health working with individuals with Autism. I continued my career working with transition age youth struggling with a lack of housing, substance misuse, and legal challenges. I've worked with high school students in special education programs, and most recently in private practice with a focus on perinatal mental health. In all of these settings I have enjoyed meeting and supporting people with identities similar and different to mine. Exploring how their race, class, gender, culture, religion, sexual orientation, physical ability, and other aspects of their identity weave into their sense of self and struggles in the world has been incredibly meaningful work.
My graduate school education at the University of Vermont Counseling Program initiated a life long process of exploring the impacts of racism, white supremacy, and other forms of systemic discrimination and oppression. Graduate school is also where I learned what it meant to be a feminist. Underlying my view of the world and rooting my work with clients is the belief that we must acknowledge the inequity within the culture we live, and commit to dismantling racist and oppressive beliefs within ourselves and our society.
I work with people across various settings. I'm a supervisor, teacher, consultant and therapist. These roles ask something different of me, but my core values and approach are the same. I show up authentically and candidly. I won't beat around the bush if I can say something directly. At the same time, I won't tell you what to do if I can help you uncover what is right for you. I will name what is happening in the room. I will help create a safe container for growth and learning by taking on a leadership role while also empowering you as a learner. I strive to create group experiences that are structured and provide opportunities for everyone's voices to be heard. I address conflict as it happens, and strive to hear feedback non-defensively. I commit to my ongoing learning, I will assist you in living up to your potential.
